Rotarian Mairhi Trickett and her daughter Rachel Harris gave members an informative talk on The Island Games. This is a Biannual Multi Sports Event similar to the Olympics for island groups all over the world to participate in. It started in the Isle of Man in 1985 and there are now 24 islands from Greenland to the Falkland Islands participating in up to 14 different sports and taking it in turns to host it. In 1995 aged just 15 Rachel represented her home in Orkney as part of the swimming team – 100m and 200m Butterfly. She spoke of her immense pride following their flag at the opening ceremony in Gibraltar and the fun and friendship she experienced with the other competitors.
