The annual visit by the High School's Head Pupils team to tell us of their ambitions in the role and beyond

On 12th September, Hawick Rotarians welcomed Mrs Shonagh Murray of Hawick High School with three of the school's Head Pupils team, Isla Gibson, Jewel McGregor and Chloe Patterson. Rory Adams was unable to be present. After their meal, Shonagh introduced the students and each spoke of their hopes and ambitions this year and for the future, before members asked a wide range of questions of them.

Rotary's Youth Team convenor Ron Smith thanked the students for visiting and made reference to the confidence they each showed, in speaking, and in their use of technology to get their messages across. Members noted the contrast with their own school and student days. Ron reiterated the students' comments on wanting High School pupils to feel comfortable there and to have a positive attitude, and on looking for opportunities to celebrate the achievements of pupils within the school.

The three students spoke also of their sporting interests in Hockey, Highland Dancing and Horses, but Rotarians were particularly taken by the stated ambitions of the three for their future careers: owning their own travel business, being an educational psychologist, and becoming a head teacher within Primary Education.

Members showed their appreciation of the visit and invited them to come back and tell us how their plans were progressing.

This event has now taken place for some years and the High School students have never failed to impress.
