Burnfoot Community Futures

Weekly meeting with guest speakers

On Thursday past George Hogg, a club member, introduced Zoe Hall, Chairperson, and Joyce Short, Community Engagement Supervisor, who gave our members a talk about Burnfoot Community Futures, (also known as the Burnfoot Community Hub).

Zoe spoke about the aim of Burnfoot Community Futures which is “to improve the well-being, quality of life and opportunities of the people of Burnfoot.” She also related how the Hub has developed over the years, searching for grants and funding which went into securing and renovating the Hub (the old Burnfoot Roadhouse Pub) which now make the building and grounds a valued community facility.

Joyce then spoke of the many wide-ranging activities and events, open to all ages, which Burnfoot Community Futures offer in support of the community: Cooking Workshops, Sewing Workshops, Food Share, Community Garden, seasonal and annual events, as well as bus trips (just to name a few), as well as the hiring of rooms in the Hub for functions and events.

Both ladies came across as being very passionate over what the Hub does and over its achievements which they said would not be possible without the support of the community at large and the much-valued support of their volunteers.

The talk proved extremely interesting and informative and was very well received by our members.

In support of Burnfoot Community Futures, Hawick Rotary is hosting an Afternoon Tea Party at The Auld Kirk at Cavers on Sunday 15th September, at 2 pm for 2.30 pm. Tickets are £15, and can be obtained from Rotary Club members or by contacting Tommy Mulvee at the North Port shop on High Street or on 07704 269642.
