On Thursday 4th September, members returned to the Petanque court on Denholm Green, where they welcomed five visitors from Tranent Rotary Club. This had come about when Assistant District Governor James Bruce, who is part of the Tranent Club, mentioned on a previous visit that his town were expecting visitors from France and they might be the better for some practice at this sport!
The evening went very well with the Hawick players showing the benefits of having played a few times more. After many practice games, three players were selected to represent each Club, and Hawick ran out the winners.
The trophy, prepared by Sports Convenor Tommy Mulvee, remains in Hawick but the visitors accepted the challenge to return.
The whole company of 20 then crossed to The Auld Cross Keys Inn for a most enjoyable and social meal.
