Rotarians were happy to have past president Jim Walker as their speaker on 11th July when Jim gave a fascinating illustrated talk on another of his hobbies. Jim had previously given us a talk on his collection of British coins, and on this occasion his subject was the history of British stamps, covering the range from the days of the ‘ penny black’ through to the present day and it was fascinating to see the changes which had taken place from the days when the monarch’s head was the only illustration on all issues to the days when superb art work was used to commemorate all sorts of celebrations of national importance. Jim’s collection was immaculately presented and circulated to the members, eliciting a number of questions from the enthusiastic members, and Jim was gratefully thanked by all present.
