On Thursday 7th March, Ron Smith, President of Hawick Rotary, and Mairhi Trickett, Leader of the Vocational & Community team, visited Hawick High School to present awards to the winners of the Club's Young Photographer competition.
The theme this year was Rebuilding, and this had led to various interpretations of the brief. Winning in the Intermediate age-category, Rylee Domingo had submitted a photograph of the new Business Centre in Oliver Crescent. Senior winner Sophie Gibbon had chosen a view of the situation at the south end of Victoria Bridge, and runner-up Burak Karapinar had been able to capture a garden shed in course of reconstruction. Each of the three is being presented with a certificate and with a gift voucher.
Sophie was unable to be present at this time.

Their photographs have gone on to be included in the national competition.
Ron Smith congratulated the winners and thanked the High School's staff – Miss Alderson, Miss Anderson and Miss Ling – for their cooperation and support in the competition.
The theme for this year's national RotaryYoung Artist competition is also Rebuilding but neither Club nor School favour this theme, and so it has been agreed that a locally-based competition will instead be held on a theme to be chosen by the Art staff.
