Hawick Rotary held its annual Handover & Assembly on June 29th. This is the point when the outgoing President hands over leadership of the Club to his replacement and on this occasion it fell to Scott Elliot to welcome Ron Smith to the role. Ron was previously President in the Covid year of 2020-21. His Vice President will be Iain Smith. Ron has been Hawick Rotary's secretary for the past six years but now expressed his gratitude to Andy Tyler for being willing to take on those duties. Andy can be contacted at athawrot@gmail.com.
A further change is that the Club is reverting to weekly meetings after experimenting with twice monthly. It was felt that continuity had been lost by that arrangement.
Mairhi Trickett, who will be leading the Club's Vocational & Community team, and Gus Neilson, who will lead International & Foundation, have outlined their plans for the year ahead, and all members are looking forward to an enjoyable and vigorous year ahead.
Ourguest on the evening was James Bruce of the Tranent Club, the incoming Area Governor for the Borders.
President of Rotary International this year, giving leadership therefore to 36,900 clubs in 200 countries, is Gordon McInally from Yetholm, and his theme is Create Hope in the World!
