On 11th May, George Hogg introduced our speaker for the evening, Paul Brough, Archive Manager at The Heritage Hub in Hawick. Paul’s talk was entitled “What’s new at The Heritage Hub?”.
He talked about his involvement in developing and cataloguing “Borders Collections Online” as well as demonstrating how these online collections can be accessed. This is the online catalogue for the Scottish Borders Museums, Galleries, Archives and Local Studies service and the aim of the project is to bring together Borders archives which were previously difficult to search through and to access for research purposes.
Paul informed us of how he first became involved in this project several years ago and how he and his team are now continuously updating the collection through the addition of yet more historic archives found locally within Hawick and throughout the Borders.
Paul’s presentation proved very informative and interesting and was well received by the club members. The vote of thanks was given Andy Tyler.
On Saturday 13th May, a very well attended Coffee Morning was held at Trinity Church Hall. Funds raised by this event will go to support Escape Youth Cafe's summer activities programme.
On Tuesday 16th May, six members of Hawick Rotary travelled to Springwood Park at Kelso to help with stewarding at the Schools Countryside Day. Children from Primary Schools across the Borders attend this each year and local Rotarians always look forward to helping organise the pupils as they go from activity to another.
