The Assembly & Handover meeting took place at Mansfield House Hotel on 30th June 2022. Present were Rotarians Elliot, Mulvee, Neilson, Oliver, I Smith, R Smith, Sutherland, Walker & Warburton, as well as Area Governor (East) Richard Rogers.
2021-22 President Scott Elliot welcomed everyone to the meeting, then briefly reviewed the past Rotary year. He thanked all for their support but noted this was an evening for looking forward. He was taking on the role once more for 2022-23, but hoped that Jane Cox might feel able to take up that position later in the year as had been originally planned. He then presented Vice President Ron Smith with his insignia. He noted several aspects of the year ahead. He intends that Club Council should meet rarely, with business items being discussed by the whole Club at their regular Business Meetings. He noted that there is a vacancy for an Entertainments organiser for the Christmas and Scots Nights and sought volunteers. He commented on President's Night having a change of date, to October 14th Ron Sutherland suggested that we should build on links with High School by inviting young performers from the school to provide the entertainment. He also read a letter from DG Duncan Collinson, which encourages attendance at District Conference at Peebles Hydro on 23rd and 24th October. He noted that we are welcoming two new members in Andy and Judy Tyler and expressed hope that they would be fully inducted at our next meeting on 14th July.
Our guest, Richard Rogers Area Governor for the East area, and a member of the Bass Rock Community Group, a satellite club associated with the Global Hub but set up by former members of North Berwick Rotary, then spoke to us. He began by reading a message from Lizette Bingham Area Governor Borders. In this she spoke of increasing the number of District Meetings across the coming year as this had been the 'consensus' opinion at this year's meetings. Hawick members queried that consensus. Richard then showed he had done his homework before coming to our meeting by commenting constructively on the business reported at the recent Club AGM, on our Facebook postings, and on the website. He ended by stating that Hawick 'was a club which is doing stuff!'
