Hawick Rotary's members and friends enjoyed an excellent Scots Night last week at their meeting in Mansfield House Hotel. After a fine meal, chairman President Scott Elliot delivered a toast to the Immortal Memory of Robert Burns, and invited Ron Smith and Ron Sutherland to give readings of (mostly) comic poems. The Doric Dictionary was required by many in the company as Ron Sutherland's offerings were delivered in that tongue.
Elsa Neilson then tested the gathering in a very varied quiz on all things Scottish. Examples: 'In how many films did Sean Connery play James Bond' and 'In which year did the Glasgow Garden Festival occur'? Eileen and Ron Smith narrowly took the prize in this.
