Weekly meeting with talk by one of our own members.
At last week's meeting of the Rotary Club
President Jim Walker and the members were taken on an illustrated tour of the
"dark enchanted Isle of Hoy" in Orkney. This was the former abode for 20
years of Past President Mairhi Trickett who brought up her young family
there. The video, although shot by an amateur, was of professional
standard and showed Hoy in all its grandeur with its glorious beaches, rugged
cliff faces pounded by the wild Atlantic Seas, and the islanders themselves in
all the seasons. Most residents are multi-taskers and have several
part-time jobs to keep the community functioning while their children have a
safe, carefree, outdoor lifestyle before they have to leave the island to
continue their secondary education being boarded out on the mainland. An
enchanting evening indeed was enjoyed by the members after which President Jim
proposed the vote of thanks.
