There was no speaker at last week's Rotary
Club meeting so members discussed on-going business. International
Convenor Linden Warburton reported that the micro-finance scheme was working
satisfactorily. The money lent to a taxi driver in Malawi had enabled him
to get his tut-tut repaired and back on the road and he had repaid the money
lent. £200 had been lent to a farmer in Cambodia towards purchasing a
tractor and altogether 3 loans totalling £750 had been made which underlined the
success of the project. There are still some tickets left for the film
night on 3rd December and they can be obtained £8 - which includes a glass of
wine - at the Cinema Box Office at the Hub. President Jim Walker laid the
Rotary Club wreath at the War Memorial at the Museum at the Remembrance Day
Service on Sunday morning. Over 100 boxes of Xmas gifts for children in
Eastern Europe had been collected and would be dispatched shortly and the
organiser Linden Warburton thanked members and Rotary friends for the tremendous
benevolent effort.
