A message from the President

Update on our Club life abc activities

Zoom goes on.....

During the first 100 days into this Rotary year we have continued our meetings on Zoom in a similar way as we had our face-to-face meetings in a restaurant in earlier pre Coronavirus days. Our RC meets every Tuesday and we alternate between evening at 7 p.m.and afternoon meetings at 2:30 p.m.

We welcome guest speakers and visiting Rotarians.

Eradication of Polio

We will celebrate World Polio Day later this month. Helping to eradicate polio has been one of our main international projects for many years, assisted in a meaningful way by the Gates Foundation. We are among the Rotarians, volunteers and supporters around the world that have raised $ 2 billion in the global fight to eradicate the disease, which has helped to immunise and protect over 2.5 billion children around the world.

Rotary's 'monumental contribution' to global efforts to eradicate polio was recently acknowledged in the House of Commons by the Prime Minister.

Kids Out

We proudly support the Rotary Christmas Toy Box Initiative 2020. The former initiative Kids Out will now supply Toy Boxes to children in need.

PR and Social Media

When DG Francis honoured us with his visit, we noted his strong emphasis that more should be done on PR and social media activities to make Rotary and our Club better known among the younger generations. We have an enthusiastic team establishing Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts where we announce upcoming events and newsworthy information. These social media platforms can be cross referenced from our own website.

Providence Row

Our Club is a regular supporter of Providence Row, a shelter for homeless people in local Shoreditch. Our members have visited the shelter from time to time and know how important it is to support the most vulnerable in society through Providence Row. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic the shelter can presently only open partly.

Our international friendship Clubs

Developed over many decades, we have created deep bonds with our twin Clubs in Lodi/Italy, St. Raphael/France and Leipzig-Bruehl in Germany. Each Club is hosting an annual get together and we have supported each other's international projects. Later this Rotary year we will be hosting our twin clubs and early preparations have been made for their four day visit to London. Each club will donate £ 2,500, making it a meaningful donation of £ 10,000 (plus grants, if any) to a worthy cause.
