A gloriously sunny day provided the perfect backdrop to a day of entertainment for all the family in Pinner High Street.
Our annual St. George's Day celebrations on Sunday 19 April attracted large crowds, with the Pinner Wheelbarrow Race providing the highlight of the day. Bell Ringing in the Parish Church announced the start of the celebrations with the Scouts parading up the High Street to the War Memorial to renew their Promise.
They were followed by Rock Chorus and Pinner & Harrow Theatre Dance Groups, both acts new to this event and providing an inspiring showcase of local talent of all ages. Morris Dancing, a Punch and Judy Show and rock band RAZORZ completed the live entertainment.
Pinner Wood School pupils made their contribution to the occasion with a parade of flags and shields created to celebrate St George and the Dragon.
The Wheelbarrow Race featured 15 teams racing from Little Common to Church Farm Green, each member consuming a half pint of beer at 6 stops along the way. The winners were "Barrowly Functioning" featuring Ryan and Jake Trimmer, the winning shield and the prize for the best dressed team were presented by Mayor of Harrow Cllr Anjana Patel. Radio Harrow were there to provide music and commentary throughout the day.
Our thanks to those members of the public who gave donations to our collectors, our final total of funds raised is expected to be just over £3,000. This will be donated to charities supported by Pinner Rotary including the President's charities, Paul Strickland Scanner Centre and CVSS sailing for people with disabilities.
Pinner Rotary St George's Celebrations are generously sponsored by Gibbs Gillespie estate agents. We are also grateful to the Queen’s Head and Yako Restaurant for their support.
