2023-24 Pinner Rotary Club Activities
June
4th: Speaker Meeting - Rtn Cecilia Thomas gave her personal talk.
8th: Collection outside Morrison's Supermarket in Hatch End. With gift aid small donations added, we raised £500 for Mind in Harrow.
18th: Club Assembly. We inducted a new member, Pratik Amin, and our first Corporate Member, Sean White of The Queen's Head.
May
14th: Annual General Meeting. We inducted a new member, Steve Pink. Anne Moore was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow.
21st: Speaker Meeting - Richard Furnival-Jones "The Palace of Knightsbridge (Harrods)"
25th - 29th: Rotary International Convention. Two of our members, John and Melinda Whitehead, attended this inspiring gathering in Singapore.
April
10th: Joint Meeting of North West London Rotary Clubs. This was an opportunity to meet Rotarians from our neighbouring clubs and hear about their projects. The guest speaker was Heather Stuart, Chair of the Rotary GB&I Board for 2025/26.
21st: St George's Day Celebration and Wheelbarrow Race in Pinner High Street.
23rd: Speaker Meeting - David Burnell "Festival of Britain". We also inducted a new member, Affi Robin.
March
5th: Speaker Meeting - David Simmonds MP.
19th: Speaker Meeting - Mind in Harrow, one of our President's charities.
23rd: Our annual fundraising Quiz Night. A sell-out event with 114 quizzers testing their knowledge.
26th: Visit to the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden followed by a meal at Boulevard Brasserie.
February
6th: Speaker Meeting - Rob Smith took us on a virtual tour of the great Victorian cemeteries, "London's Magnificent Seven".
9th: Rotary International Peace Conference, London.
20th: Speaker Meeting - Rtn Michael Morris gave his personal presentation at Izgara Restaurant, Northwood.
January
1st: Pinner Members joined London Rotary Clubs for the annual New Year's Day Parade.
23rd: Burns Supper at Pinner Hill Golf Club.
December
5th: Impromptu dinner at Chin Chin restaurant in Pinner
9th: Christmas collection at Morrisons supermarket, Hatch End. On a very wet and windy day our volunteers raised over £500 thanks to the generous public doing their Christmas shopping.
13th to 21st: Santa's Sleigh touring the streets of Pinner. Over 6 nights we raised £6,300.
19th: We held our Christmas Party at Pinner Hill Golf Club with Fr. Anthony Pellegrini giving us a very entertaining talk about his life. We also inducted a new member, Milika Mushota.
November7th: Speaker Meeting - local author Leigh Russell gave us a fascinating talk about her life as a crime novel writer.
12th: President John laid a wreath at the Pinner Remembrance Service
21st: Club Meeting - Rtn Parvez Khan gave his personal presentation about his family and his career. His mixed cultural background was enlightening and we all learned a lot.
28th: Visit to the Museum of Brands and lunch at The Elgin pub in Notting Hill. A wonderful trip down memory lane followed by great fish and chips!
October
14th: Pinner Rotary 80th Anniversary Dinner
20th - 22nd: Multi-District Conference, Eastbourne. Four of our members took part in a very enjoyable conference, all agreed it was exceptional for the quality of speakers and entertainment. We came away inspired!
24th: Speaker Meeting - Jade Dyer came to tell us about the work of Prostate Cancer UK, the main beneficiary of our funds raised at the Village Show.
September
5th: Speaker Meeting - Anna Whitehead told us about her experience working as an intern for the United Nations in New York. We also inducted new member Parvez Khan.
9th: Pinner Rotary Village Show
19th: Speaker Meeting - Rtn Jan Wright took us on another of his travels, this time through China. We also inducted new member Cecilia Thomas.
22nd - 24th: Link Visit to Bruges and Ghent.
26th: Wine Tasting and supper at Cathy's house.
August
1st: Speaker Meeting - Colin Richards: "Aerial Thrills & Spills at Northolt Airport"
13th: Our Summer Garden Party, held in John & Melinda's garden.
15th: Rtns John and Melinda shared their experience of attending the Rotary International Convention held in Melbourne in May.
22nd: Guided London Walk around Spitalfields with Blue Badge Guide Sue King, followed by a curry in Brick Lane.
July
4th: President's Dinner. An enjoyable celebration to start the new Rotary year. We also inducted two new members, Janet Mote and Nitin Khanapurkar
25th: Visit to Church Gardens, Harefield.
