Visit to Pinner Wood School Media Centre
On November 19th 2021 Brian & Kate Glozier and myself were invited to visit Pinner Wood School to see for ourselves what had happened to the donation Pinner Rotary made earlier in the year. We were amazed to discover the state-of-the-art media centre that has been created and were impressed by the range of projects undertaken by the children. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit which culminated in having our photographs taken portrait style by 3 of the pupils.
Pinner Wood School is a primary school of over 600 pupils from nursery to age 11, located in Latimer Gardens, Pinner Hill. Rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, the school catchment area includes pupils from a wide range of minority ethnic backgrounds with almost half speaking English as a second language.
The new centre came about thanks to the enthusiasm and dedication of Head of Computing Greg Williams, IT Technician Dan Leigh and Site Manager and photographer Carl Batson. They persuaded Deputy Head, Jo Bretayne, that it was an achievable and worthwhile project, and the end result is a facility where pupils discover how to cope in the modern digital world.
Everything from vlogging to music technology software is available, with opportunities to learn about digital photography and running a radio station. It’s a world apart from IT labs of the past, where rows of computers allowed pupils to learn basic typing skills.
Our donation to the school has enabled them to purchase a ‘Mac mini’ computer, this provides the central powerhouse for their IT systems.
Our thanks to Brian and Kate who introduced us to Pinner Wood School through their friendship with Deputy Head Jo, we look forward to an ongoing relationship between Pinner Rotary and the school.
