Awards

The Paul Harris Fellowship is gained by donating $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation. In UK this is achieved by Clubs who have donated, accumulating Credits that they will redeem in order to honour a member who has given exceptional service.

November 2015

For many years now Gillies Sinclair has been heading up the team that sought candidates for RYLA. The results have been tremendous and the Falkirk Club, who recently conferred a PHF upon Gillies, is keen to recognise the tremendous work that he did over these years. Gilles has always played an active role in the Club and with his background in Medicine and Scouting was the ideal protagonist to carry forward the Club’s aspirations for RYLA over the years. Sadly Gillies will no longer be able to continue in his role but his legacy will remain.

Robin Johnston, the only member of the Rotary club of Falkirk who carried the three main roles over many years of service, President, treasurer and a secretary, has been awarded PHF for his contribution, support and guidance to all members

2015

A number of important awards were announced and presentations made at this year's Handover Dinner.
Our own Ian Rule – received the Rotary Foundation Citation for Meritorious Service for sterling service rendered to humanitarian work, including the Jaipur Limb initiative and being a member of the RF International Technical Cadre – a very richly deserved award.

2014

In 1997 we showed our pride in the local Institution International Rescue Corps by awarding Willie McMartin a Paul Harris Fellowship.

Unfortunately at the time of the presentation for some reason or another Willie did not receive his lapel badge so, seventeen years later, when he returned to address the Club in July, President Robert Spears was able to correct the omission and present Willie with the long awaited emblem.

The Rotary Foundation is a Charity that spends billions of dollars every year on humanitarian and peace initiatives throughout the world. Every Rotary Club in the world donates money for these purposes and every $1,000 that is donated qualifies for a “Paul Harris Fellowship”.

In more affluent Countries members donate individually and are rewarded personally by presentation of a fellowship (or multiple thereof). In Britain it is more the norm for Clubs to donate and build up credits. These credits are used to provide recognition for members and local heroes such as Willie.

Recently the award was given to Club members Sandy Murrison, John Struthers and Harry Johnston for unstinting hard work within Rotary and beyond.
