Ludhiana is a large industrial city in the North Indian State of Punjab with over 1,885,000 inhabitants.
The Punjab Agricultural University is home to the Museum of Rural Life, which displays pottery, musical instruments and traditional Punjabi clothing. Nearby, leafy Nehru Rose Garden features ornamental fountains and more than one thousand different rose varieties. To the north, Maharaja Ranjit Singh War Museum documents Punjabi military history.
Ludhiana is a city of contrasts with wide roads, large shopping malls and expensive housing to the west of the railway and the crowded, noisy old city to the east. The city has one of the highest per capita incomes in India and this apparent prosperity attracts many migrants from poorer Indian states who come to Ludhiana to seek employment.
