Edinburgh Young Carers

Presentation of Donation to Edinburgh Young Carers

Edinburgh Young Carers is a charity which provides respite and support to young people between the ages of 5 and 25 who care for somebody at home. It welcomes a donation made to it by Rotary Edinburgh. Rotary Edinburgh ran ‘A Challenge For All’ fundraising event amongst its members during May 2024 to raise funds for EYC and on 1 August 2024 presented a cheque for £10,000 to Margaret Murphy, Chief Executive of the charity. “We are delighted to receive this fantastic donation from Rotary Edinburgh.” said Ms Murphy, “It was a great achievement by their members and is much appreciated. The funds donated will be used to support the running of our Counselling service for young people under the age of 16.” President Sandra Brown of Rotary Edinburgh who presented the cheque said, “We were really committed and delighted to fundraise for Edinburgh Young Carers, as its services are strongly informed by what their young people ask for and the positive impact the service has on them and on the children and young people’s parents and carers. All members of Edinburgh Rotary were challenged to participate in a range of physical activities to suit their ability throughout the month of May. Examples include - climbing 250 stairs every day, running 100k during May, hiking 250k on an exercise machine, taking 10,000 steps every day, walking 150 miles during the month. We were astounded and so pleased to collect such a substantial sum. In addition to fundraising for good causes, Rotary is a membership organisation that gives service. Many of our members give up their time to help those less fortunate than ourselves - for example on KidsOut Day, helping Fresh Start and participating in the Clean Up at the Water of Leith. We know that many people join us because of the opportunities Rotary offers for service to others”.
