Coffee Club Outings

Next visit to Saughton Park - 27th July

Following recent visits to central city coffee houses, it was all change on Saturday for Rotary Edinburgh's Coffee Club with a new venue and format.

Fifteen members and friends met for coffee and pastries at the #foursquarecafe in Saughton Park. Afterwards, we walked around the gardens, and were treated to a fascinating talk from historian Joe of the Friends of Saughton Park.

We learnt about Saughton Hall, home to the Baird family, later a lunatic asylum before it's demolition in the early 1950s. The site is ingeniously marked by flag stones and a tree lined avenue. Saughton Park hosted the Scottish National Exhibition in 1908 and first opened to the public in 1910. Features today include a Physic Garden, topiary and a Glass House.

It was great to catch up with friends in the sunshine, to see the gardens and the Bandstand restored to their former glory, and learn something of their story.

Thank you Joe and Saughton Park. We will be back.

Next Meeting 27th July 2024 10:30 to 12:30.  More Info HERE
