Caring for our environment
During the growing season, members of Rotary Edinburgh work alongside the E-Club of Southern Scotland to care for the planters at Edinburgh Park Station as part of Scotrail’s Adopt a Station project.
Our purple crocus corms planted on the foreshore at Silverknowes and at North Edinburgh Arts provide a cheerful splash of colour and make the environment more attractive. In Great Britain and Ireland, the purple crocus is a symbol of End Polio Now - Rotary’s campaign to eradicate polio worldwide.
Together with family and friends we organise Beach Cleans to help remove plastic, metal, glass and other waste from the foreshores.
In 2018, we planted a copse of a hundred trees – one for each of our members – at Silverknowes. This was part of a global project to Plant a Tree for every Rotarian. In early 2020, members planted more trees to replace those that had been lost.
