Edinburgh Rotary members have a long-standing relationship with Fresh Start, the charity based in Pilton which helps those who have been homeless and those in need in the community.
For over twenty years, teams of four Club volunteers have been packing Starter Packs of crockery, cutlery, pots and pans and cleaning materials every Thursday morning. These are issued to new tenants to have been homelestt to give them a good start in their new homes.
During its centenary year (2012-13) Fresh Start was the chosen charity for the Club and its donation that year enabled a new food Starter Pack to be initiated.
We now partner with Fresh Start to help set up and run a Community Pantry in the new Community Hub at Pilton.
Our success in winning the District Community Award prize of £1,000 has enabled us to buy a commercial fridge and shelving for the Pantry.
When the Pantry opens in the summer members will help staff the roster alongside community volunteers.
Rotary Edinburgh provides ongoing support for North Edinburgh Arts, a vibrant community centre in the Muirhouse area of Edinburgh. Activities include:
• sourcing unwanted musical instruments for use in the Music Studio
• collecting power tools and materials for use by the Community Shed
• donating art and craft materials for the Create Project for the Under 5s
• Stroke Prevention Events in the NEA café
