The session got off to a wet start but even so the Scottish Ambulance Service were able to carry out some 95 Blood Pressure tests and give appropriate advice to those who came to see us. Of these, they advised 7 to visit their family doctor within a week and the hope is that such advice will help to prevent more serious blood pressure problems developing, including of course stroke.
There are 152,000 strokes in the UK every year, which works out at one every five minutes. The Stroke Assocition is a charity working to raise awareness of the causes of stroke and helping victims cope with it. High blood pressure is the biggest risk factor contributing to stroke, but it has no symptoms and can affect people of any age. 16 million people in the UK have high blood pressure yet many of them don
