Once again Duns Rotary was able, through its Lapland contacts, to get the agreement of Santa Claus to make special pre-Christmas visits to Duns and the surrounding area.
In the final weekend before Christmas he met children in Gavinton, Greenlaw, Eccles, Leitholm, Cumledge Mill, Preston and Chirnside.
On Christmas Eve he made a special call at Duns Market Square where the Rotary Club had set up a Grotto for him and a refreshment tent for parents. It was, to be honest, a night of dreadful weather but still Santa came and so did the children. And he didn't leave until every last child who came to the Square had been able to see him and receive a small present from him in advance of their main Christmas presents.
Considering all the miles he had to travel during the rest of that night we at Duns Rotary are very grateful to him for the time and trouble he took, and hope we shall be able to see him again next year.
The slideshow on this page shows some pictures of Market Square - and of some very big umbrellas.
