Rotary Foundation
The mission of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. The club raises money regularly for the International and Humanitarian efforts to eradicate Polio in every country in The World.Recently the World Health Organization’s (WHO), Africa Region, has officially been certified free from wild poliovirus. This signifies a major milestone in the battle to totally eradicate this dreadful disease.
This progress is the result of decades-long efforts across 47 countries which make up the WHO’s African Region. This now means that five of the six WHO regions, which represent 90% of the world’s population, will be free of wild polio.
Rotary members have played an invaluable role in the effort to rid the African region of wild polio. Rotarians have contributed nearly US$890 million to conquer the disease in the region. Success has been achieved by raising awareness with governments across the world and negotiating with national and local leaders.
