International Projects
Part of the ethos of Rotary International is to advance global understanding, goodwill and peace by fostering acquaintance with citizens of other countries.
With this in mind, and to promote this principle, the club seeks to raise money for overseas activities which we feel require special attention.
Current projects:
• JAPAN
Aid for Japan, and sponsoring of Japanese orphans from the aftermath of the Tsunami in 2011.
Children are given the opportunity to travel to the U.K. and are provided with airfares, accommodation, experience of the country and English Lessons. The children return to Japan having encountered the U.K. first- hand, hopefully therefore broadening their perspectives and giving a better opportunity of employment prospects.
• NEPAL
Muchu School, Humla, Nepal - We are supporting and have rebuilt the School’s classrooms to ensure education for 50-100 children.
Also more recently our donations are providing food, which is currently preventing famine. The school is in the remote north of the country and normally receives its food from across the Chinese Border. The border is currently closed due to Covid 19, food is required to be flown in.UKRAINE
We have been working with the Rotary of Kharkiv in humanitarian support to the town.
Twinning
Twinning internationally with Clubs is a very enjoyable, interesting and rewarding part of our club.
• PROVINS ~ Our club is twinned with the lively Provins Rotary Club. Provins is a picturesque and historical medieval town 90 kilometres to the south east of Paris. The twinning has been productively going on for over 50 years. We meet up annually (alternately in the U.K. then France) for a long-weekend of fun, sightseeing and fellowship.
Deep friendships have developed over the the decades and the exchange visits and resulting fellowship is cherished by many of our members.
• KHARKIV- Recently we have started a second twinning relationship with the Rotary Club of Kharkiv, Ukraine. Kharkiv is the second largest city in Ukraine in the north east of country.
We currently keep in touch with our twin clubs by What’s App and Zoom. We seek to understand and promote charitable projects of mutual interest.
We hope to develop more twin clubs in the future.
