Community ProjectsOur Club provides help and assistance with local charities either by committing time and resources or by raising funds.
We have assisted recently:
• Chiswick School. Our club has donated in a small way to the school fundraising.Chiswick School is a mixed Secondary School in the Borough of Hounslow, West London. It educates more than 1200 students between the ages of 11 to 18 years.
• Macmillan Cancer Care - Chiswick.
Macmillan will be known to many. It’s a large national charity that support patients whose cancer is treatable but not curable. Their aim is maximising patients’ quality of life plus managing side effects from their treatment.Just before lockdown the rotary club was beginning to know about Hogarth Youth Club. We hope to assist again financially and practically with its requirements in the future and get to know more about its activities. It is important to the club to fund local services to West London , in the Borough of Hounslow alone there are approximately 6,000 people living with cancer.
• Lyric Theatre - Christmas in the Community.
The borough of Hammersmith & Fulham is an area with huge disparities of wealth and deprivation and The Lyric strives to offer those who are affected by poverty the chance to enjoy Christmas despite any financial issues they may face. The Lyric offer accessibly priced tickets and free tickets to local residents and local workers. The theatre also has a tradition of providing a delightful Christmas experience for low-income families through local charitable organisations and are also supported by local companies. The Rotary Club and Kids Out have supported this project over the last 3 years.
• Hogarth Youth Centre
Hogarth Youth and Community Centre provides opportunities which allow all young people in the London Borough of Hounslow to improve their quality of life. It is a vibrant hub for the community in the heart of Chiswick.• Hounslow Community FoodboxFoodbox is a local foodbank which has seen a substantial increase in referrals during thepandemic. So much so that in April FoodBox took on larger premises, the Rose Community Centre in Brentford. There are now as many referrals for emergency food in one week as in an average month last year. At start of lockdown at end of March FoodBox volunteers began to deliver all food parcels to those individuals and families referred to us. In four months to the end of July 1,300 food parcels supporting 2,600 adults and children have been delivered by Foodbox volunteers.
Chiswick House & Gardens
- Due to Covid-19 the House and Gardens have lost half of its £1m annual income. Almost all its cash-raising events have had to be cancelled. In spite of the expense, the gardens have remained open during lockdown. The open grounds has definitely provided a welcome haven of peace and tranquillity for the local community.Chiswick House is notably a Grade 1 historic building is the finest example of neo-Palladian architecture in the UK. Its gardens were the starting point of the English Landscape movement. The well known Georgiana , Duchess of Devonshire (1757-1806) called it her "earthly paradise". A key free environmental area in West London. There is an urgent need to replace the lost income so that the estate can continue to operate and be available to all.The Chiswick & Brentford Rotary Club is assisting & supporting a project for the raising of £75,000 over the next year for the Chiswick House estate.
