On 31st July our speaker is Simon Hunter, a finalist of Scottish Home of the Year.
Simon Hunter is a Doonhamer who graduated from Strathclyde University with a degree in Civil Engineering, later becoming a Chartered Civil Engineer. His first job was at the Trident Nuclear Submarine base, but he then moved back to Dumfries and spent the next 30 years working in Water and Sewerage, initially for D&G Council and ultimately for the successor Scottish Water. Hankering to pursue his passion for Architecture, he attended D&G College to obtain a qualification in Architectural Technology, subsequently setting up his own business designing houses and house extensions. In 2025, he designed the extension and internal remodelling of the house that won the Scottish Home of the Year Regional Heat and was Runner-up in the Scottish Final.

ROTARY FOUNDATION is the charitable arm of Rotary. Funds raised locally for Foundation projects can, when supported by RIBI and Global Grants from Rotary International, be increased fourfold.

We have two RotaKids clubs, based in two of our local Primary schools. It is never too early to start making a difference in the community and RotaKids give those aged 7 - 12 the chance to do just that...
