Donald Brown is 65 years old and was brought up on a small farm in South Ayrshire, he studied at West of Scotland Agricultural College, Auchincruive, Ayr, worked on farms until he was 29 years old and then joined animal feed manufacturer BOCM Silcock, as an Animal Feed Specialist supporting sales merchants and their farmer customers.

After 10 years Donald moved to a feeding equipment manufacturer, Keenan, in a similar role and got the opportunity to work not only throughout UK but also Ireland, America, Zimbabwe, Botswana, New Zealand, Indonesia and Australia. He decided at the age of 54 that extensive travelling was a young persons job and took a lecturing role at the S.R.U.C Barony Campus where he still works as a lecturer in Livestock Farming.
