Thank you for your interest in serving as a guest speaker and sharing your expertise or experience at a meeting of the Rotary Club of Dumfries.
Please review these Guidelines for Rotary Speakers before contacting MAtthew Wallace, Speakers Club Officer via the "Contact Matthew Wallace about this page" link at the end of this page.
We get together every Friday around 12.30 at The Cairndale Hotel, English Street, Dumfries, DG1 2DF.
Our meeting commences at 12.45 with Club Business before lunch is served.
Lunch is two course with tea or coffee. (Starter and Main Course in the Winter half of the year and Main Course and Dessert in the Summer half) with two or three options for each course.
Please let us know in advance if you have any special dietary requirements. Lunch finishes about 13.35 and this allows our speaker 15 – 20 minutes before we conclude the meeting with final Club announcements, aiming to finish promptly at 14.00 hrs.
If you are planning to use PowerPoint or similar (about 50% of our speakers do), we ask you to bring your talk on your own laptop as well as on a flash-drive in case we need to fall back to our own standby laptop.
We will provide a projector and screen.
You are our guest – so when you arrive, please announce you are the speaker and don’t pay for your lunch! We are a friendly lot and you will find us most welcoming.
You will be introduced to our President or presiding deputy who will in due course introduce you formally to the Club at the commencement of your talk.
We ask that you send to the Speakers Club Officer, well before the event date, a brief one-paragraph bio of yourself and your topic.
This will enable us to correctly announce your presentation topic on our club’s website "Meetings & Events" page, Facebook page "Dumfries Rotary Club Dumfries", publish it in our Club Newsletter, and also give you a proper introduction at the meeting.
If you have time, feel free to stay after the meeting for members who wish to stay longer and ask questions or just chat to you.
Our club has approximately 20 to 30 members and guests in attendance at any given meeting.
Handouts for club members are welcome.
However, there are no copy facilities in the meeting room, so you will need to bring any handouts that are required for your presentation.
Your presentation must avoid overt sales. Making a “sales pitch” or directly soliciting purchases or donations is not in the spirit of Rotary. Presentations should not promote a specific business or its services and presentations should be non-political and non-sectarian, unless you have been invited specifically for that purpose.
Our policy does not allow anyone running for political office to address the club within 90 days prior to an election, so as to avoid campaign speeches.
Requests for financial support from the club should be via the “Contact Us” page on our website as opposed to being solicited from the members during your presentation. This form will go directly to our Club Secretary who will include it in the next agenda of our club’s Council meeting.
We look forward to your visit and your talk/presentation.
