New Rotary President

Welcome to the Rotary Club of Rye & Winchelsea.

My name is Richard O’Sullivan and from 1st July I took over as the Club’s President for the New Rotary year.  The International theme for Rotary is The Magic of Rotary and calls on members to recognise and amplify the organisation’s power to do good in the world.  More importantly, is how we can do good to support your local community and make their lives just a little easier. It’s up to us to create that magic with every pound donated, with every project completed, and with every new member.”

Even though we are one of the larger Rotary Clubs in the South East, we always welcome new members. If you are an individual who lives, or works, in Rye, Winchelsea or one of the surrounding villages, we invite you to consider membership in our club. We believe in inclusivity and diversity.

Formed in 1948 and composed of community leaders, our motto is Service AboveSelf. In addition to networking, our club hosts several fundraisers each year and donates thousands of pounds primarily to local charities, but we also support International efforts on Polio, support to Ukraine and other Disaster relief funds.  

With our sister Club of Tenterden Rotary, we sponsor a Christmas Stories competition, supported by over 20 local schools. Last Rotary year through your generous donations over £8,000 was made to over 30 charities and local good causes, including Brede School and the Rye Foodbank.

But it's not all about work. We believe in the importance of socialising and having fun. Our club hosts a variety of social activities, from Quiz nights, Walks and interesting talks from groups such as the local RNLI. These events are a great way to unwind, connect with fellow members, and make lasting memories.
