The Rotary Club of Hastings extends a big thank you to all Hastings residents for their generosity in supporting the club with the Rotary Christmas Appeal in aid of local needy people. Early indications are for a total of approx 5,300 from the Tree of Lights plus the store and town centre collections. Every penny of the money collected and donated will go to local people and charities. The Clubs Community Service Chairman, Derek Lawrence, said that although the total is slightly down on last year it is a fantastic response in these difficult financial times. He added we have been able to support many local charities plus send over 130 hampers to needy people in the town. With the help of the Hastings Observer and the Rotary Tree of Light plus local supermarkets Sainsbury, Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and the Priory Meadow shopping centre, Hastings Rotarians have been seen everywhere over the last few weeks in their distinctive tabards collecting this incredible sum. The town centre even saw the Mayor, Councillor Alan Roberts, lend a hand in the collections Mr Lawrence added a special thank you to the girls at A1 Quality Homecare who made up and delivered the hampers to the grateful recipients.
