This year Remembrance Day was a warm sunny autumn day in sharp contrast to last year when we all got soaked through. The refurbished war memorial in Alexander Park looked impressive and the residents of Hastings turned out in force. Just before 11 a.m. the pipes and drums heralded the arrival of the official procession who had marched from the Town hall. It was made up of the uniform services, an impressive turn out from the towns various youth groups including a large contingent from Buckswood School. The procession wound its way into the park and the various "units" were drawn up around the memorial. A lone bugler played the Last Post and a maroon signalled the two minute silence which was strictly observed by the huge crown. Following the second maroon and the playing of The Reveille, numerous wreaths were laid including one on behalf of Rotary International by our own President Brion Purdy. The event was made particularly poignant by the laying of a wreath in memory of the recent loss of a service man from the town. Apart from our own president our local MP Amber Rudd, who is also a member of the Rotary club of Hastings, laid a wreath.
