Esuubi

Esuubi is a UK registered charity first established in 2006 to support disadvantaged children, particularly orphans in Mityana town in central Uganda. Since 2008 a residential complex and primary school have been built at Ekiwulumo 4 kilometers from the centre of Mityana. This currently provides nursery and primary school education up to P7 level (equivalent to year 7 in the UK) for approximately 350 pupils including 120 children whose families are unable to accommodate and support them who consequently live on the site.  The project also supports children through secondary education to A level particularly at Ebenezer Secondary School which is situated a few likometers away.

The project is largely funded by a sponsorship scheme through which donors not only donate money but are encouraged through correspondence to engage in the children’s welfare and educational progress.

To support the project a tourist café has also been built to generate income to help finance the continuing development of the project. There is also ongoing agricultural development on the 25-acre site to help provide food for the children as well as providing an additional source of income.  About 40% of the site is covered by a eucalyptus plantation which when mature will also provide income through the sale of the tree trunks for use as telegraph poles and for use supporting power lines.
