Weekly Meeting 27 July 2015

There were two guests for the regular meeting this week. First was visiting Rotarian Pat Rosser from the RC of Langley Park in Beckenham which is part of our 1120 District.

Pat's club meets on Mondays in the evening so if she hurries home she can have another meal – which incidentally costs her members £16.00.

Also present for the fourth consecutive week was Harry Prescott a guest of Rtn John Morris.

Harry's first career was as a member of the Royal Marines Band Service so if/when Harry joins us that will make five instrumentalists in the club, four of them from the RMBS.

Rtn Edward Barkway reminded those present that the annual Deal Hospital Fete takes place this Saturday. Those that have volunteered to help should report for ticket folding duties at 10:30am.

PP David Hannent drew attention to an event being organised by the Dover club that was recently emailed to members. If you missed it here are the details of their Horrible Horse Race (sic). It will be interesting to know what the 'horrible' part is. For your diary, the proposed date for our annual Race Night is pencilled in as Thursday 24th March 2016.

During the previous week Rtn Martin Porter has been busy in his role as Chairman of the Community Committee by giving donations to two worthy causes:

Secondly a cheque also was presented to Ceri Northcott of the Deal Breastfeeding Group.

The secretary announced that next week we will be raided by members of the Hythe club. Judging by past years there will probably be up to ten of them, such is their eagerness to partake in their scatter week – or is it Dunkerley's food.

Rtn David Harding is handling arrangements for a garden party being organised by the RC of Calais on 4th August which will be at the home of Michel Rocher. Numbers are limited but if you wish to attend, please contact David.

The President announced that he will be attending the Kent and Canterbury Hospital on Wednesday 29th July to attend a presentation to the prostate cancer section of a machine donated by the Prostate Cancer Support Association (Kent) to whom we recently donated funds.

He also took names for those wishing to attend a visit to the Tower of London on Wednesday 7th October. There are spaces for 25 persons in the bus and most of them seem to be taken already so the advice is to register your interest if you wish to join the party.

It was also announced that to avoid confusion of the whereabouts of club property, the secretary will forthwith store all of it in a central place, namely his home. Therefore if you do have any club property, please ensure it is either transported to him soonest or inform him so it may be collected, catalogued and stored.

After all business was concluded a short talk was given by Rtn Michel Dourthe about the Rotary Foundation. This was mainly for the benefit of new members. Michel commenced his talk by emphasising that Rotary International (RI) and The Rotary Foundation (TRF) were two separate entities and should not be confused.

The weekly wine draw was won by PP Ian Draper who felt obliged to present it to the hospital fete tombola stall.

There were three 200 Club winners resulting in wins for Ian Dunkerley, Michel Dourthe and H Luke.
