Ann is a regular visitor owning a property on Deal's seafront.

David Harding, as Chair of the Membership Committee, urged all members to seek out potential new members who, like us, would like to give something back to society. He remarked that when determining suitability, a good guideline is "If you like the person then he/she is the type of person that existing members would also like."

David also announced that four new walkie talkies have been purchased to replace those that were faulty. The walkie talkies are used mainly at Fowlmead during the sponsored cycle ride but may also be used for any other event that demands instant communication between numbers of people.

He also picked his own card thus winning the weekly wine draw.

PP Mike Baxter reminded those present that the annual Bat and Trap takes place on Thursday followed by a BBQ at Baypoint (the former Pfizer Social Club). We need to wield a mighty team to snatch back the valuable trophy into our sole ownership. The event ended in a tie last year with each side supposedly holding the trophy for six months which actually never happened.

Talking of trophies, the Corcoran Cup has made an appearance, somewhat cleaner than it was last seen.

Who is this youthful, blond-headed person?

F W B Corcoran was president of the club from 1959 to 1960. The silver cup is supposed to be used for a competition between the RC of Deal and the Inner Wheel Club of Deal. Maybe someone could suggest an event that will make this a possibility again; quizzes didn't seem to catch the attention of the ladies.

The proposed garden party scheduled for 5th September has had to be re-scheduled. The suggested date was two weeks later but that clashed with the IW trip on the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway and also with District meetings. A new date will need to be arranged if this function is to take place at all. Any later and the date will be too close to the planned Evening with the Ladies on the fifth Monday, 29th September.

Next Saturday, 23rd August, is the date for the annual Picnic on the Green organised by Walmer Parish Council. This is an opportunity for organisations such as ours to inform the public, "This is who we are and this is what we do" and an ideal occasion to thank the public for supporting us with our charitable appeals. Again the club will be demonstrating a ShelterBox in the hope that someone may be interested enough to find what it is all about. It will be displayed between the hours of 1pm to 4:30pm if anyone wishes to see a ShelterBox and its contents.

The secretary reminded members that next Monday is a Bank Holiday and therefore there will be no meeting, the next being on Monday 1st September when a new hospitality team of Nicholls, Porter and Richards will welcome you to Dunkerley's.

Rtn Pat Brown's birthday was acknowledged. The 200 Club draw was won by Denis Jacobson from Kingsdown.
