Sponsored Cycle Ride 2013

On Saturday 15 June The Rotary Club of Deal held its annual sponsored cycle ride at Fowlmead Country Park with children from the local primary schools of Hornbeam, Downs C of E, Northbourne, Deal Parochial School, Sholden, Sandown and Warden House all taking part; 38 in total.

The chosen charity was the New Petra, a converted Dutch barge moored in Ostend that takes parties of disadvantaged children on adventure canal cruises. See here for more info.

Starting the ride was the Deal Town Mayor Marlene Burnham who was accompanied by the deputy mayor of St Omer, Paulette Leporcq, who, with 40 others, was on a twinning visit to Deal.

It is not yet known how much money has been raised because the money has not yet been handed in by the children.

Certificates will be presented by the Mayor to the participants in Deal Town Hall on Saturday 20 July.
