This afternoon I came across honorary member Lynn Langlands on the West Parade complete with information and SumUp machine to raise additional support for the Bexhill Beach Garden project.
She had no problem attracting attention as the builders were in full swing with diggers moving the shingle and carpenters making amazing progress on building the four seating areas. The structure of each one is a feate of engineering and a work of art at the same time.
Lynn commented, "It's so exciting seeing what I dreamed about becoming a reality in front of my own eyes".
The project is being run by Community Supporters who have developed the concept, obtained all the permissions and raised the funds to get the project underway.
Bruce & Co, the builders, were the only company prepared to bid for and undertake the work. Our own President Hugh Allen is the director of the company. I was able to have a few words with Hugh while he was supervising the works.
"This is a project with no template, we are using our experience to get the most stable structure in a potentially very hostile environment." he told me. "We need to get the whole structure in situ before the Winter storms set in. Then the vegetation can start to get growing in a setting which is already proven to be completely compatible with our unique blend of seashore plants"
Lynn said "I can't wait till next Spring to see the whole project start to come alive, it will take years before the whole ecosystem is fully established, but the first signs will be there by next summer."
We wish them all every success in the project.
