Bexhill Rotary Club organises Treasure Hunt with Prize Draw

This year we have set ourselves the task of getting our Club out in the public eye and generating fun and good conversations with the object of getting better understanding of our future role in the community.

After last week's fun at Bexhill day, where we held a bottle Tombola and raised £224 for local charities we decided to do something entirely different for the Bexhill 100 Car Show.

Our President Hugh Allen has recently imported and recommissioned a Military Hummer A2 1097 and decided to bring it along to the show. It's an impressive beast with a lot of history and in very authentic condition including special warning plates for carrying all kinds of 'munitions.

To add a bit of fun to the event we organised a Treasure Hunt for families to take part serching for up to 26 vehicles around the site, one for each letter of the alphabet, from Audi to Zodiac.

Of course the letter H was reserved for Hummer and anyone visiting the Hummer would receive a ticket from Hugh to enter the Prize Draw. The prize being an 1/18th scale model Hummer.

We had lots of interest both at our stand and the Hummer and we had nearly 100 tickets by the end of the day. The lucky winner was Freddie James. His grandfather Steve James had taken Freddie to the car show while he was staying with him during the summer hollidays. As Freddie was due to return to Northampton later in the week we organised a handover outside the De La Warr Pavilion on Wednesday morning.

Freddie was so excited to receive his prize and Steve told me how Hugh had let them climb into the Hummer during the show and that alone was a highligt of the day.  Steve said that Freddie's reaction to hearing he had won the model was delightful.

We also met a great number of local and visiting people including our new MP Dr Kieren Mullan who was keen to come to one of our meetings.

As a bit of fun we had two maps, one of the South Coast, Brighton to Dover and another of Bexhill region for people to put spots on to indicate where they had traveled from, not a scientific study, but it showed a wide range of locations across the region.

By the end of the day we were satisfied that the event had worked well, we had learned a lot from being there and our shared contribution with other local voluntary organisations had been a great showcase for Bexhill.
