Fifteen go golfing
After many years of neglect Yasin Abbas, the proprietor of Jazz Barbers in Little Common, took over and restored this 18-hole fully landscaped mini-golf course. Over the past two years he has fenced it, restored the greens, and opened a club house.
Neither the low temperature nor the bitingly cold could deter our fifteen intrepid Rotarians and partners from venturing west to the foothills of Eastbourne – well alright, the mini-golf at Princes Park.
Equipped with nothing more than a putter, a white or vividly coloured golf ball, score card and stubby pencil they set off to tackle the 18 hole course. First at the tee were the Slinns and the Donaldsons, combining golfing experience and legal knowhow that would prove invaluable in the cut.
The par for the course was 71, which foursome would achieve this or under, individually or when the teams scores were averaged out? I guess it should have come as not surprise that one of the Slinn partnership, Sandra, won the individual prize, a trophy and bottle of bubbles, for the lowest score at an impressive 65, 6 below par, which would be a “phoenix” if achieved on a par 6 or 7 hole. President James’s lower score was adjudged to have been unfairly obtained but he will have undoubtably shared the bottle of bubbly that Sandra received.
Winners or runners-up, the event was regarded as good fun by all those who took part.
