It was a cold and rainy Sunday when any sane person would be engaged in activities indoors but having journeyed to the flat lands of South Holland to cycle – cycle we did. In the company of PP Graham Dawson and Andy Prior, an old mate from Hastings Beer Festival days, we ventured forth and completed 40 miles together.
This dreadful weather day had followed a bright and breezy Saturday when I rode from our hotel in Spalding over to Graham’s house in Gedney Dyke – a distance of 13 miles – and then together we cycled out towards The Wash on a circuit of 24 miles. After thanking Graham for his company, I then completed 50 miles for the day by returning to Spalding.
On Saturday evening, Sandra and I were joined by Graham, his wife Debbie, Sue and Geoff Day for a pre theatre dinner before walking over to the South Holland Centre to enjoy a show by Tenors Unlimited – the duo who sang at our school choir event last November in Eastbourne.
A memorable trip, that included attending Spalding RC charter night dinner on Friday where cash donations were pressed into my hand, and adding 90 miles to The Long Ride total in an interesting and colourful part of the country.
