HORSEPLAYING BEXHILL ROTARIANS RAISE OVER £900 FOR CHARITY!!

A crowd of Bexhill Rotarians and friends collected at Bexhill Sailing Club on Saturday 24 th February for their annual Race Night to have a lot of fun and raise funds for charitable causes.

Of course the punters had to have sustenance to help them with their betting and that came in the form of piping hot, hearty plates of fish & chips, courtesy of Louis Fish & Chip Shop in Bexhill.

Rotarian Tim Pilbeam was an excellent and lively Master of Ceremonies who made sure the evening went with a swing and encouraged the punters to get involved with each race shown on a big screen. Rotarians Cara Grant and Sue Day aided by Amanda Donaldson and Margaret Field got into sales mode deftly persuading punters to be Horse Owners, and selling lots of raffle tickets which raised a more than healthy £325. Past President Robin Taylor was Race Master and Chief Steward whilst President James Slinn and Past President John Cooper efficiently ran the Tote to make sure everything ran smoothly on the night.

At the end of a non-stop evening, some of the punters went home a little better off due to their betting skills and a slice of good fortune whilst others were not so lucky, but everybody agreed that it had been a really jolly and fun event for a good cause.

John Cooper said of the fundraiser, “Our thanks go to Peter Gadsden at Bexhill Sailing Club for hosting the evening, and our thanks also to all those who provided prizes for the raffle so that a good sum of money could be raised. John added, “Thanks to all those who attended to help us romp home with a tidy profit for the evening of over £900, all of which will be donated to our charities.”
