ROTARY GOES TO THE RACES
Post COVID we were back at the races on Friday night when The Rotary Club of Bexhill held it’s annual Race Night hosted by the Bexhill Sailing Club.
It was horses for courses on the night and the event was well supported by both Rotarians and Sailing Club members along with partners and guests. President Graham Dawson was our course steward keeping both the horses and punters in check. Hot tips were straight from the horse’s mouth and our on-screen commentator.
Punters were able to purchase horses and name them adding extra fun and foaling around! to the evening. There were a few dark horses and plenty of one trick ponies, including Last, Last Again, Still last and Still Not Won. It was heard say a Rocking horse would have had more chance than a few of the nags running.
Punters were fed and watered during the evening with drinks from the bar and a fish & chip supper, yes, we eat like horses!
The Tote was kept busy with punters betting on multiple runners with 50% to the winners and the other 50% going to charity.
The going was soft and so were the chairs! We enjoyed 8 races including a mix of flat & jump, plus hold your horses! a bonus pig race to finish of the evening with many punters bringing home the bacon.
At the end of the evening President Graham gave special thanks for the use of the club facilities and to all the members of the Sailing club for their support on the night. Thanks, was also given to Rotarian Vernon and the fundraising committee for organising such a great evening of fun and fellowship. £505.26 was raised in support of Rotary charities.
Great fun was had by all and I’m sure we were all a little hoarse on Saturday morning!
News: Straight from the horse’s mouth we hope to run the event again next year so if you think the horse has bolted watch this space!
