The Umpteenth Bexhill Rotary International Open Masters Invitation Crazy Golf Tournament
Once again the weather was kind to us, as 33 intrepid putters assembled at Hastings Sea Front for the annual crazy golf challenge. Fortified by a hearty meal involving lots of lovely chips, The squad of Nick Faldo look-a-likes gave an exemplary display of club handling technique. Unfortunately, the club we had all been given was a putter yet some were convinced they were yielding a driver, prompting the coast guard to broadcast a warning to passing shipping.
At the end of the round we could see who the serious golfers were, as Ian “Birdie” Edwards carded the lowest score whilst Richard “Bulls eye” Lane recorded the most holes in one. Sadly, Richard forgot the old golfing tradition that means everyone in the clubhouse gets a drink to celebrate the fact.
Not wishing to be left out, Vernon Findlay managed a creditable last place, thereby securing the wooden spoon, a rather pointless prize given that he spends all his time whittling.
Ultimately, the most impressive demonstration of golfing prowess came from Betty Walter, who whacked her ball all the way down the throat of the “win a free round” machine at the end of the round and put the rest of us to shame. Well done all four winners and thanks to everyone who supported the evening, which raised £222.70 which we hope will go towards supporting the rescue efforts currently underway in the Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian.
