KidsOut Day

A fun day out for local children at Knockhatch Adventure Park.

The Club took a party of 29 excited Year 5 children from All Saints C.E. Primary School in Sidley to Knockhatch Adventure Park near Hailsham.  This outing was part of Kids Out Day when Rotary Clubs nationally take children for a day out to give them a time of their lives, something that is often missing in their day to day lives.

Bexhill Rotary’s President, Paul Frostick, and Rotarian Roger Batey were in attendance throughout the day along with Annie Rogers, Year 5 teacher, and two parent helpers, Vi and Paula.  Not that the grown-ups missed out on all the fun, far from it!

The children (19 girls and 10 boys) boarded the coach soon after 9 a.m. and after settling themselves in and getting seat belts clicked into place the coach left at 9.15. arriving at Knockhatch just before it opened at 10 a.m.

Once inside the park, the party headed towards the animals on display including meerkats, antelopes, miniature ponies, exotic birds and whole host of other specimens including an albino wallaby. This was then followed by a hands-on session in the Barn with a guinea pig, a tarantula, a snake and an owl.  It was difficult to tear everybody away but eventually the session ended with many smiles on many faces.

All this exertion gave the party an appetite so it was time for a lunch break in the sunshine.  Then it was off to another play area with more singing on swings and more zipping on zip wires, there was also a maze in a conifer wood with nobody getting permanently lost. After another break and counting up of children (to make sure that everybody was present and correct), it was off to the Barn once again, this time to see a fascinating display of owls in flight.

Everybody had had a wonderful day with the sun shining non-stop.  On returning to All Saints in Sidley, there were many smiley faces and a great big thank you from everybody to Bexhill Rotary for a fun and fabulous day out

I think it fair to say that Paul, our President, was pleased to be back in Bexhill but pleased also that the day had gone so well seeing so many happy children enjoying themselves.
