Fight Polio

Children from King Offa Academy joined together with Bexhill Rotarians to plant 5,000 purple crocus bulbs on Bexhill Down this week.

The aim of the planting is to promote awareness of The end End Polio Now Campaign, in response to World Polio Day last month.

The campaign encourages people and groups to plant purple flowers because the dye that is used on children’s fingers to show they have been immunised is purple.

Colin Stutley, from Bexhill Rotary Club, said: “Rother District Council helped us with the site and Rebecca Owen from Neighbourhood Services organised the turf removal and replacement.

“Just two countries world-wide still have a few cases but with everyone being more aware soon this dreadful disease will be eradicated.

“All those who wish to help us raise funds are welcome to enter a team for our quiz on November 13. Contact Hugh Allen on 07831 351461.
