Charilty Walks

Community Charity Walk Sunday 10th June:

Very early on the day a team of experts were up with the Lark, walking all the routes (2, 7 & 15 mile) to ensure nothing would impede the day, fix up Way Markers, set up Base and Monitoring stations. Drinks, biscuits, First Aid, Sun Screen are just small items in the juggernaut of organising this event.

We used 54 marshals throughout the day

Our plans were rewarded by a record number of entrants, all walking in support of their own Charities. Up by 65%: To be exact: 2 miles 111, 7 miles 215 and 39 for the 15 miles, well done.

Assuming they each raised a similar amount to last year’s walkers we can estimate funds raised for the local community to be £25,000.

Considerable work was undertaken by Rotarian wives and in particular those dealing with registration and certificate preparation, bearing the brunt of the action at the start and finish, special thanks therefore to Sylvia, Margaret F, Margaret S and Wendy.   Thanks also to Stella for assisting Malcolm on setting up the 7 mile route, Chris and Sandra for pushing Harold along the way, and Marion for sweeping the 2 milers.

Other ladies I would like to thank include Amanda at the De La Warr crossing, Vivian O at Crowhurst Church, Jenny at Crowhurst Rec, Betty and Joyce at Battle, Fiona, Sue and Trish (Geoff since inducted) at the Powdermill crossings, Margaret V at the Promenade crossing, and Pat L for supervising the old codgers at the Promenade turnaround.

Well done to Angie for completing the 15 miles and Eva for the 7 miles and Anthony Donaldson and Etham M-D who also completed the 15 miles way ahead of their adult supervision, what stamina, well done to you all.

I hope afterwards you all rewarded yourselves a well-deserved medicinal wine, except the last two of course!!!
