Held at St Augustine's Church Hall

Annual Senior Citizens' Tea Party

Nearly 100 elderly Bexhill residents arrived at St Augustine's Church Hall on Friday afternoon, invited by Bexhill Rotary Club's Community Services committee to enjoy their annual tea party.

They had been collected from their homes by the Rotarians in their cars (with support by two or three taxis and a minibus) and were met and welcomed by the Rotarians, their wives, students of St Richard's Catholic College and members of their Interact Club.

The Mayor of Bexhill, Councillor Mrs Bridget George was the guest of honour.

Rotary President Roger Batey formally welcomed all the guests, including the Mayor who responded by paying tribute to the Rotary Club and other Bexhill voluntary organisations who provide an important service in the community.

Before tea was served, the guests were entertained for half an hour or so by the St Richards students who sang, danced (including an Irish dance) and recited their own poetry, delighting the guests with their talent, energy and enthusiasm.

Rotarian Paul Frostick , armed with his guitar than led everyone in a rousing twenty minutes or so of community singing, with a wide range of well known tunes including a selection from 'She'll Be Coming 'Round The Mountain' to Sea Shanties.

A delicious tea, of home made sandwiches and cakes was then served and the Mayor spent time chatting with the guests after she had helped serving them.

When the cups and saucers and plates had been cleared away it was the turn of The Land Girls to take to the stage with their versatile talents, singing old time favourites as well as more recent ones, encouraging their audience to sing along with them and partner them in the occasional dance.

At the end of the afternoon President Roger thanked everyone for coming and gave special thanks to the St Richards students, the organising committee, led by Patrick Donaldson and
