This year the swimmers achieved more than a marathon in support of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution
Swimalong - 2019
Swimalong 2019 has been a great success.
This was our third attempt to complete a marathon swim within 3 hours and this time the swimmers achieved over 52 km, far exceeding the marathon target of a 42 km.
This year, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution will benefit from the efforts of the swimmers who took part in the event at the West Wickham Leisure Centre on Sunday 29th September.
The event was organized by the Rotary Club of Beckenham with the help and support of other clubs and local community organizations.
The Mayor of Bromley, Councillor Nicholas Bennett, accompanied by his wife, attended and the Mayor himself swam a useful distance towards the target.
We estimate that we will have raised £3,000 for the RNLI, but it will take a while before all the pledges turn into receipts.
The draw for the prize of a two night stay for two people at the RNLI College in Poole Dorset, took place in the evening at Prima Donnas Restaurant, West Wickham. The winner will enjoy this fabulous prize, generously donated by the RNLI.
An extra event this year was the unveiling of a scale model of the Newhaven lifeboat "Kathleen Mary" by the Mayor of Bromley. The beautiful scale model was built over the past 43 years by David Crowden of Bromley RNLI fundraising branch.
We are grateful to the West Wickham Leisure Centre, to West Wickham Rotary club and to all our sponsors, whose generous support made this event possible.Our thanks again to the RNLI, to Prima Donnas and others for their support and kind donations.
