Visit to Sodertalje
In August 2014, President David accompanied by Nick Randall, Richard Harknett and Bill Fairhall visited the Rotary Club of Sodertalje, near Stockholm. During the visit the teams from both clubs continued to explore the possibility of 'twinning', or in Rotary terms becoming contact clubs.
This was the return of a visit to Beckenham in April this year and the purpose of the exchange was to understand if the two clubs were suitable for an international twinning arrangement. Such an arrangement would enable both the clubs to learn from each other, encourage joint projects, promote international understanding and of course, for members to enjoy themselves in the process.
Our Swedish friends were wonderfully generous hosts and we look forward to our two clubs working together in Rotary fellowship. Having laid the foundations for our partnership and discussed the advantages and challenges of twinning for both clubs, we now seek approval from our members to set the seal on what promises to be a very productive relationship for both clubs.
The intention is that each September there will be a visit by one club to the other, alternating year by year. We hope to work together on a project in the Congo to heal the emotional and physical wounds of victims of child rape and the brutalization of conscripted boy soldiers as well as benefiting from joint support for the 'Living Hope' school in Pakistan'.
